The mission of the Criminal Investigation is to protect and insure the safety of staff members and inmates within the Sheriff Department of Corrections and Court Facilities. The mission is accomplished by gathering intelligences relating to criminal activity within the jail, processing and analyzing the intelligence and dissemination the intelligence.
Additionally, the Criminal Investigation investigates persons and property crimes occuring in Claiborne County.The Criminal Investigation Division also investigates all felony and serious misdemeanor crimes. When a uniformed deputy files a report, the C.I.D. will begin a follow up investigation. The C.I.D. is responsible for processing and cataloging evidence at the crime scene. Prepare affidavits for arrest and search warrants, interview victims, witnesses, and interrogate suspect and perform many other related duties. The commander submits the case files to the District Attorney Office and they present it to Grand Jury. The C.I.D. also works with local, state, and federal agencies to bring criminals to trial for justice.
